Umbilical Effluent Spreading in the Waikato
Paramount Effluent uses an umbilical spreading system to move effluent from your pond to the paddock through a hose instead of a tanker. With no heavy tanker on the paddock you get less soil compaction, less damage to races and gateways, and no hold-ups for stock on the lanes.
How the umbilical system works
A pump on a tractor at your effluent pond pushes effluent through up to 1.6 km of hose. At the other end, a second tractor pulls a dribble bar that lays the effluent evenly across the full width and length of the paddock. Because the effluent travels through the hose, only the spreading tractor is on the paddock.
Why choose umbilical over tankers
- Less soil compaction with no loaded tanker driving back and forth
- Low to no wear on lanes, races and gateways
- Reach more paddocks, including ones your irrigator can't get to
- Even spreading across the full paddock, ideal for maize and other cropping ground
- No disruption to stock movements on the lanes while we work
- Cost effective compared with tankers or hours spent shifting travelling irrigators
How much we can cover in a day
The system can move up to 300 m³ of effluent an hour. How many hectares we cover in a day depends on your application rate, the solids in your pond, the distance from the pond to the paddock and your paddock layout. Waikato Regional Council rules limit each application to 25 mm deep, so we plan rates to suit your soil and stay within the rules. Call Nick and he can give you an estimate for your farm.
GPS proof of placement
The dribble bar has a flow meter connected to GPS proof of placement through Tabula. After each job you get a report showing where your effluent went and at what rate. Combined with nutrient testing, it shows exactly what nutrients were applied and where, which helps with your nutrient budget.
All-inclusive pricing
Our pricing covers pond stirring, nitrogen testing, effluent pumping, spreading and mapping reports, so there are no surprises.
